Good to know

I built this house myself over 3 years while living in a tent. It was one of the hardest things I have done, but so worth it. This house is called an Earthship, a totally off grid house that catches its own rain water, generates its own electricity and stays at a steady 72 degrees all year round without the use of any fuel or electricity what-so-ever! Don't let the term "Off Grid" fool you, this house has all the modern amenities. fast WiFi, Netflix with a flat screen tv, large refrigerator, large oven/range with a powerful exhaust hood, large bathroom with a luxuriously deep tub and stone all around. There is even a washing machine and dryer in case you need to do laundry. The sun heats the house passively, but don't worry, you can still sleep in after a late light with black out shades that let you control when the sun illuminates this beautiful space.

Other Details to Note

Dogs are permitted with an extra $50 fee. That one time fee is for your entire stay no matter how long. There is one queen size bed that sleeps 2 and a super comfortable, queen bed that our daybed converts into which sleeps an additional 2 guests. Additional guests over 2 years old are $25/night each. We work very hard to mitigate the presence of mice. Unfortunately, they are part of life out on the Mesa. While unlikely, there is a possibility that you could receive a visit during your stay.

House Rules

While your doggies are welcome with the $50 dog fee per dog, they must remain on leash while outdoors and cannot be left unsupervised in the house. There are young children, dogs, cats and chickens in our neighborhood and we care about their safety.

Earth Ship is such an amazing space and we can’t wait to go back when we have some more time to spend there. Dan and his team were very responsive and informative about staying in an off the grid house. Would recommend this spot for anyone who wants to experience something new and different in an incredible and beautiful spot! Dan sent a video tutorial before hand so we were completely ready for what we were in store for.

This was an amazing place to stay. We spent three days here and absolutely loved it! The instructions for maintaining the electricity and the water were very easy to follow and the house stayed cool the whole time we were there no matter how hot it got outside.A wonderful experience that we would choose to do again at sometime in the future!

Had a lovely stay. The mint entryway was a nice touch. Stayed up late to watch the stars and then got up early to see the sunrise. The location is easy to find and place was comfortable to sleep in.

Such a fun and unique experience to stay in an earthship! We enjoyed walking around the little community there and seeing the way each are designed and constructed! We loved smelling the fresh mint each day and throughout the house! Nice added touch! The stars were AMAZING- such a great place to see them! We enjoyed our time and can check such a place off our bucket list!

This Earthship is a perfect peaceful retreat! Everything was immaculately clean and the space had all the essentials we needed. Don't worry about the lack of AC - the natural temperature regulation works amazingly well, keeping it cool during the day and comfortable at night. The greenhouse with its fragrant mint was an unexpected delight. One small note: there's a short gravel road leading to the property, so consider your vehicle choice when booking. The hot water was plentiful and the quiet location made for a truly restorative stay. Highly recommend this unique desert sanctuary ;)

Fantastic experience in the Taos Mesa Studio Earthship. Our host Dan provided a wonderful experience. We stayed from March 28-31. Cool, self sustaining and off the grid studio in the desert outside of Taos NM with all the comforts of home and the vibe of a tranquil retreat. Everything needed for the stay was provided. The dark sky was incredible and we could see the constellations and planets while laying in bed through the amazing windows. Definitely will come back in the summer with our telescope.
